The Education Committee was set up to inform young people about the importance of One Health in the Netherlands and in developing countries. We aim to raise awareness of issues such as animal welfare and sustainability, as these are increasingly important and pressing topics in today’s society. In addition, we are working to raise awareness of the importance of veterinary medicine and livestock farming in both the Netherlands and Africa.
The lesson therefore reflects our motto: healthy animals, healthy people, a healthy planet.
Animal health is important not only for the animals themselves, but also for humans in the context of public health. The term ‘One Health’ is a key concept in this regard: healthy animals, healthy people and a healthy planet.
To achieve these goals, we have developed a lesson that focuses on the circumstances faced by a vet in Malawi. This is a country in Africa where Vets Without Borders – Netherlands is active.
In the lesson, we will discuss issues such as: What is different for a vet in Africa compared to a vet in the Netherlands? Why is a vet also important when we talk about human health?
By addressing these issues in a fun and interactive way, we hope to broaden their horizons.
The lesson consists of both theoretical and practical elements, including an organ puzzle, applying a bandage and listening with a stethoscope. By alternating between theory and practice, we ensure that it remains fun and interesting for the pupils!
Deze les is op dit moment bestemd voor basisschoolleerlingen, maar momenteel zijn wij bezig met de uitbreidingen naar het hoger onderwijs. De duur van de les is aan te passen, maar de les zal gemiddeld 1 à 2 uur in beslag nemen. De les wordt gegeven op vrijwillige basis, maar we vragen een bijdrage van 55 euro per les excl. de reiskosten. Deze bijdrage gebruiken wij om de materialen voor de les en andere initiatieven van onze stichting te financieren. Mochten de kosten een probleem zijn, neem dan even contact met ons op, dan bespreken we de mogelijkheden.
