Your legacy, their future

We are at a turning point

Our ambition

In the Netherlands, it is common to leave an inheritance to family or sometimes friends (who may pay tax on it). We aim to normalise leaving a gift to charity. You can make a tax-free donation to recognised charities that share your values. Whether you leave part or all of your estate, you continue to support what matters to you — even after your lifetime — helping people, animals, and nature. Recognized charities meet strict standards, ensuring your legacy is well spent.

Leaving a gift to us

You can include Veterinarians Without Borders Netherlands in your will by stating that you wish to leave part of your estate to: Veterinarians Without Borders Netherlands Chamber of Commerce (KvK): 71964843, Veerstraat 17-1, 1075 SL Amsterdam

You can choose a notarised will, a handwritten will, a codicil, or an emergency will.

In our brochure, you can read more about how to draw up a will, where your legacy goes, and stories from others who have chosen this path.

Frequently asked questions

In the Netherlands, there are several types of wills: a notarised will, a handwritten will (holographic will), a codicil, and an emergency will. For the advantages and disadvantages of each, please contact our coordinator.

Start by thinking about the people and causes that matter most to you. Based on these priorities, you can shape your will. I

It is also important to review the legal status of your relationship with your partner and family members. Whether someone is considered an heir under the law depends on their relationship to the deceased. Dutch law distinguishes four groups of heirs:

1. Partner, children, and their descendants
2. Parents, siblings, and their descendants
3. Grandparents and their descendants (including aunts, uncles, cousins)
4. Great-grandparents and their descendants

If there are no heirs in any of these groups, the estate passes to the State. For more information, please contact our coordinator for more information.

No, it is not mandatory, but it is strongly recommended. For example, a handwritten will is not legally valid unless it is registered by a notary. A notary also provides appropriate legal advice, ensures everything is correctly arranged, and safely stores your will. For more information, please contact our coordinator

The projects of Veterinarians Without Borders Netherlands focus primarily, though not exclusively, on training community animal health workers in Malawi. They support livestock keepers in keeping their animals healthy. This is essential not only for the animals, but also for farmers and their families. Many people in Africa depend on small-scale livestock farming for their income. By keeping animals healthy, we invest in the self-reliance and livelihoods of thousands of farmers and their families. You can be part of this impact.

You can ask our coordinator for the testimonials from Ria, who included Veterinarians Without Borders Netherlands in her will, as well as from Dorika in Malawi, who has received training and support from our organisation.

The tax benefit does not only apply to legacies, but also to your regular donations to Dierenartsen Zonder Grenzen Nederland or another organization with the ANBI quality mark. The difference between naming us in your will as heir and making a regular donation to us is that with a donation, property is irrevocably transferred to another (natural or legal) person.

Tax benefits do not only apply to legacies, but also to regular donations to Veterinarians Without Borders Netherlands or other organisations with ANBI status. The difference between naming us as a beneficiary in your will and making a regular donation is that a donation involves the irrevocable transfer of assets to another person or organisation. Would you like to make a donation? We would be very grateful. The easiest way is to transfer a contribution to our bank account: NL67 TRIO 0379 3388 66 You can also donate via our donation page.
