This year we are again organizing a charity run to raise money to vaccinate dogs in northern Malawi against rabies. About 500 people still die from this virus every year in Malawi, Africa. Worldwide, this number rises to 59,000! These deaths occur mostly in underprivileged areas. Dogs or cats carry rabies and can transmit it to humans through a scratch or bite. Rabies is preventable by vaccinating four-legged friends. Click here for more information on rabies infection and prevention.
Zeroby 2030: No more Rabies in 2030
That is the vision of this campaign. We share this ambition with Global Alliance Rabies Control (GARC), a partner of Vétérinaires Sans Frontières-NL. Together we strive to eliminate rabies.
Vétérinaires Sans Frontières-NL contributes to #zeroby30 by setting the goal of vaccinating 80% of the dogs in northern Malawi (this is 22,000 dogs) by 2022. However, we cannot do this alone. For this, we need your help. You can do this by donating or by testing your athletic abilities in the RUN 4 RABIES. A run of 3, 5 or 10 km taking place in Utrecht on Sept. 26. Click here for more information about this event.
Rest assured. Even if you do not live in Utrecht, you can participate. In fact, you can also participate in your own neighborhood! How to participate? You can register via this form. You sign up, get your whole family to sponsor you, and exercise during the week of Sept. 26-30, 2022. Of course, you have to record your exercise via an app (Strava, for example), to prove to your sponsors that you made the promised effort.
Every year 59,000 people die from rabies. We can prevent this by vaccinating.
Will you help eliminate rabies?
