World Rabies Day
World Rabies Day is an international campaign coordinated by the Global Alliance for Rabies Control, a nonprofit organization in America and Great Britain. World Rabies Day is held on Sept. 28, the anniversary of the death of Louis Pasteur who developed the first effective vaccine against rabies. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness of the impact of rabies on humans and animals, to provide information and advice on how to prevent the disease and how to help eradicate this life-threatening disease.

On World Rabies Day, Vets Without Borders Student sold vegan wraps to students at the Utrecht Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The money raised during this sale will go to the rabies vaccination project in Malawi.

Working together for rabies prevention
Working together is key in the fight against the rabies virus, as it is a global problem. The campaign also promotes the "one health" approach in rabies prevention, part of a global strategy to expand interdisciplinary collaboration and communication in all aspects of human and animal health care.
World Rabies Day contributes to engaging governments and policymakers in rabies prevention and monitoring, increasing the number of vaccinated animals, and improving awareness of the impact the disease has on our society. In addition, World Rabies Day promotes the implementation of an integrated model of disease control, 'the blueprint of rabies prevention'.
