Rabies Vaccination Project

Every 9 minutes someone dies of rabies

Rabies is one of the most life-threatening and infectious diseases on earth. Rabies occurs in animals and can be transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected animal. Especially in Africa and Asia, human deaths from rabies are still common. By vaccinating dogs, we can ensure that people are no longer infected with the rabies virus . Daarom hebben wij tussen maart 2022 en september 2023 een grootschalige rabiës vaccinatie campagne uitgevoerd in Noord-Malawi.

There are already more than 40.000 dogs vaccinated!

There is poverty in Malawi, which is why we are committed from the Netherlands through fundraising, the Run4Rabies, rabies awareness and knowledge transfer, among other things. We are proud of what we have achieved so far! Together we can prevent this virus in humans. We are working with our local partner Centre for Community Empowerment Initiatives. Furthermore, the Global Alliance for Rabies Control helps us with the implementation, provides us with advice, and further, we use the Rabies Vaccination Tracker developed by GARC to properly track all vaccinations. Through our local partner we also work with the Malawian government, their veterinarians participate in vaccinating the dogs.

For the run in 2024 it is our goal to vaccinate at least 50.000 dogs. that way we can achieve the required 70% vaccination coverage in more and more areas, thus stopping the transmission of rabies.

The Edgard & Cooper Foundation is the biggest donor of the Rabies Project

Only together we eliminate rabies!
Every year the Run4Rabies committee organizes a charity run. With the aim of raising as much money as possible for the fight against the rabies virus.
